Dr. Burns going to Haiti
As you may know, my family and I have been involved with an organization that cares for orphans around the world. In the past 18 months we have focused our concern on Haiti. Prior to the recent 7.3 magnitude earthquake and today's 6.1 aftershock, the situation in Haiti was very bad. This disaster has taken countless lives and left Port au Prince and Haiti's already meager infrastructure incapacitated. The huge number of orphans and abandoned children has increased dramatically, literally overnight. They need help.
This time, I think it should be me.
On Saturday, I leave for Haiti with a medical team assembled by The Global Orphan Project (C3 Missions) and plan to return on Monday, February 1st. We will be caring for an expanding population of orphans and abandoned children in a Transitional Orphan Village in Croix des Bouguets, near Port au Prince. By the end next week, it is anticipated that there will be an additional 500 children under our care. You can track periodic updates of our relief and medical effort at the Global Orphan Project BLOG page.
ProPartnersMD nursing staff have combed through our medical supplies and procured prescription and other medications that we will take with us. The need for medicines, supplies, and people at this time is really unlimited.
While I'm gone, my patient load will primarily be covered by Dr. Miner. If you were scheduled to see me prior to 2-2-10, you will be receiving a call from our office requesting that you change your appointment to be with one of our other physicians. Please be understanding and flexible. I ask that you do not wait to see me after I return as this will certainly create challenges for our staff and other patients.
If you have an interest in helping, I encourage you to contribute to Foundation Twelve48. I assure you that your tax-deductible contribution will be wisely spent to help the orphans and abandoned children of Haiti in a direct way. We plan to build and directly support a medical clinic through supplies, medications, compensation for Haitian staff, on-line consultations, and periodic short-term trips by ProPartnersMD physicians and staff.
Please pray for Haiti, the children, and for the effectiveness of our work.
