Metabolic rate, or metabolism, is the rate at which the body expends energy. This is also referred to as the "caloric burn rate" and is directly related to how much oxygen you consume. Knowing metabolic rate is vital for efficient weight loss as well as weight maintenance.

At ProPartnersMD, metabolic testing is performed using the same equipment used by U.S. Olympic teams to measure oxygen consumption at rest and with exercise. Metabolic rate is measured at rest (to determine how many calories you burn at rest in a 24 hour period) and with exercise (to determine how many calories you burn per hour at various heart rates when you exercise). In addition, the heart rate at which you start to transition from strictly aerobic metabolism to anaerobic metabolism is recorded.

This data is then used by our staff to formulate your dietary plan (target calories) and exercise plans (target heart rate) so you can efficiently reach your fitness and weight loss goals.
