Age Management Medicine

Age management is not about living longer – it is about remaining PRODUCTIVE and ENGAGED despite your age. It is about not accepting the age related loss of VITALITY so often experienced with aging.

Age management medicine (AMM) is based on the concept that sufficient medical evidence reveals that we can improve the quality of life by delaying the onset of the signs and symptoms associated with aging. While we may not be able to increase longevity, we are able to prevent premature disability and death while enjoying a better quality of life.

AMM is focused on helping men regain and maintain optimal health and vigor. Issues associated with aging - from body composition and energy levels, to brain and sexual function - are largely due to metabolic and hormonal deficiencies, along with increasing levels of oxidation / chronic inflammation.

Whereas traditional medicine practices a fix-it-when-it-breaks or diagnose-and-treat approach, AMM incorporates well-known and accepted markers of disease risk into proactive patient management; increasing metabolism, optimizing hormones, and decreasing oxidation / chronic inflammation. AMM emphasizes the enhancement of health over the treatment of illness, allowing for a more dynamic life through middle age and beyond.

Although age management services are not covered under traditional health insurance plans, the costs may be reimbursable expenses under health reimbursement or health savings accounts. Additionally, like all out-of-pocket health expenses, these expenses maybe tax deductible. (We recommend consultation with your tax advisor.)

At ProPartnersMD, AMM evaluations are performed in conjunction with any of our Health Assessments.  In addition to information gained through a "traditional" Health Assessment, AMM tests that help your physician to provide specific recommendations include: an Expanded Hormone Profile, Biological Age Assessment, extensive Nutritional Evaluation, and Metabolic Testing.

Profile

Description

Expanded Hormone Profile
Includes: Insulin, IGF-1, IGFBP-3, Free T4, Free T3, Reverse T3, Antithyroglobulin antibody, Thyroid peroxidase antibody, DHT, Estradiol, Progesterone, SHBG, DHEA-S, Cortisol x4, Melatonin, Free testosterone

Hormones affect every aspect of physiological function.  Suboptimal function of any endocrine gland may cause imbalances or deficiencies of any of the important hormones included in this profile.  Treating these abnormalities (bio-identical hormones) frequently improves how people feel, look, think, and act.

Biological Age Assessment
Telomere Testing, DEXA bone density, Oxidative stress panels (cysteine, glutathione, glutathione peroxides, sulfate, superoxide dismutase, total antioxidant capacity, lipid peroxides, urine 8-OHdG)

Measurement of the length of telomeres in chromosomal DNA is currently the most accurate method of determining how fast a person is aging.  DEXA is performed to identify bone strength and osteoporosis.  Oxidative stress panels performed on blood and urine determine antioxidant reserve, enzyme function, free radical damage, and lipid peroxides.

Nutritional Evaluation
Blood test that measures: Antioxidants, B Vitamins, Digestive Support, Essential Fatty Acids, Minerals, and Amino Acids

Individual nutritional status is affected by diet, environment, and lifestyle.  This extensive intracellular nutrient analysis identifies vitamin, mineral, and antioxidant deficiencies and allows your physician to recommend specific nutritional supplementation to meet your unique needs.

Metabolic Testing
A breathing test that measures oxygen consumption in exhaled air to determine resting metabolic rate and at various heart rates with exercise.
It is performed at rest and with exercise on a treadmill at ProPartnersMD.

Metabolism tends to decrease with age, primarily due to a number of reversible factors. Metabolic testing at ProPartnersMD evaluates resting metabolic rate, metabolic rate during exercise, target heart rate for maximal fat-burning, and VO2-Max (indicator of level of cardiovascular fitness).  Results of this test are used to recommend dietary and exercise targets and to track progress toward increasing metabolic rate.
